Getting the big picture!

Soft X-ray Tomography (SXT) is an ideal imaging modality for mapping the interaction of organelle within biological cells, given its ability to image the whole internal structure of intact cells with high spatial resolution and high natural contrast.

The paper below, published in February 2022, describes how SXT has been used to map the interaction of insulin vesicles with mitochondria in pancreatic Beta cells during insulin secretion and how this changes over time. It highlights the advantage of being able to monitor this cell reorganisation across the whole cell structure, which would be difficult to achieve with other imaging modalities
