Explore the Applications
of the SXT-100
Unlock the potential of cellular research with the SXT-100. Its unparalleled imaging capabilities empower scientists to delve deeper into the complexities of life at the cellular level.
Unparalleled Imaging Power for Cellular Research
Soft X-ray Tomography fills an important gap between light and electron microscopy. Cell biologists use this technique to view the complete internal structure of intact biological cells at nanoscale resolution. This imaging method complements both light and electron microscopy well. In fact, researchers can correlate soft X-ray microscopy with these more established techniques to enhance and extend their benefits.
Up to now, soft x-ray microscopy has been available only at synchrotron facilities with limited access for a small number of researchers making systematic studies, so crucial for biomedical studies, very difficult.
Applications
Empowering Research Across Disciplines
The SXT-100 is a compact, non-destructive X-ray microscope proven across life-science fields. From mapping chromatin architecture to tracking virus–cell interactions, SXT-100 brings synchrotron-grade imaging into every lab.
Virology
Visualise virus entry, assembly, and egress in 3D.
Immunology
Quantify lymphocyte activation and subcellular trafficking.
Cell Biology
Observe organelle dynamics & chromatin rearrangements.
Nanomedicine

Proven Applications
These applications were previously only possible at large facilities, but can now be performed in standard laboratories. Researchers have demonstrated numerous applications for soft x-ray tomography.
The versatility, compact design, and the non-destructive nature of soft x-ray tomography also facilitates the development of correlative workflows involving light and electron microscopy.
Our Featured Projects
Whole-Cell Imaging for Disease Research
The ability of SXT to provide native contrast 3D structural imaging of whole cells in their close to native environment makes it ideal for the study of disease conditions such as cancer, infectious or neurodegenerative diseases.
By providing highly detailed images of internal cell architecture with minimal preparation the biological process in tumors, host-pathogen interactions as well as immune cell response to infection.
Combining soft x-ray tomography with other techniques, such as electron microscopy or fluorescence microscopy, will further enhance the ability to study infectious diseases at multiple scales and in greater detail.

Accelerating Pharmaceutical Drug Discovery
Since soft x-ray microscopy doesn’t require labels or dyes, researchers can observe biological structures in their natural state. This is important when studying complex interactions between drug compounds and cellular environments and their effects on the internal architecture of cells.
Soft x-ray tomography is also ideal for imaging the 3D cellular distribution of therapeutic laden nanoparticles commonly used in nanomedicine.
